Bilateral meeting with representatives of the Austrian Federal Competition Authority
  • On March 25-26, a delegation from the Austrian Competition Authority (AFCA), headed by the Director General for Competition Natalie Harsdorf-Borsch visited Warsaw at the invitation of UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny.
  • The meeting was a great opportunity to discuss current issues in the field of competition protection.

Delegates discussed institutional designs of both institutions and competition monitoring systems in Poland and Austria. An important topic of the meeting was cartel detection, in particular the methods and tools used by the two institutions. In addition, the topic of dawn raids, which are an effective tool of collecting evidence in antitrust cases, was also addressed.

Both experts from the AFCA and UOKiK exchanged information on sector inquiries in the food industry, and discussed the issue of contractual advantage in the agriculture and food sectors, with presentations of the most interesting cases.

During the meeting experts also discussed the topic of international cooperation. 

On 7 December 2023, in Paris during the OECD Global Forum on Competition, the President of UOKiK and the heads of the competition authorities from Central and Eastern Europe signed an annex to the Memorandum on regional cooperation concluded in April 2023.

The two-day bilateral meeting allowed the exchange of information on activities of two authorities, helped strengthen the cooperation and opened up new opportunities for the development of this cooperation.
