A shop may tempt customers with offers and promotions, but when UOKiK asks for the basis of its advertising messages, the business has a duty to respond. The President of UOKiK has imposed a fine of nearly PLN 8.5 million – the equivalent of €2 million – on Beliani for failing to provide the requested information.
Failure to provide information on the lowest price applicable in the 30 days prior to a price reduction – these are the allegations levelled by the President of UOKiK against Black Red White, Żabka Nano and Peek & Cloppenburg stores. There is a penalty of up to 10% of turnover for the violation of collective consumer interests.
Special offers on products from the leaflet, a discount on the entire basket, cheaper prices for bulk purchases. Several bargains in a single shopping trip? It has to be clear. The President of UOKiK has examined how the Biedronka and Lidl retail chains present information on discounts applied on checkout screens and receipts.
Bargain – buy at a higher price. Price reduction – take our word for it. Discounts – calculated to look big. Buyers on the Zalando and Temu platforms were not properly informed about promotions, including the lowest price in the 30 days before the discount.

How big is the discount? Temu customers may not know. Failing to inform consumers of the lowest price from the 30 days preceding a promotion – or providing false pricing – are the allegations raised by the President of UOKiK.
Special discount codes, sale days, countdown clocks – you see them and think it’s worth taking advantage, because who knows when such an opportunity might come again. Customers of the Renee and Born2Be online stores are unaware that these “promotions” never end.
