Visit of the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in Washington D.C.

Between the 4thand 8th April, UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny visited Washington D.C. to participate in several events.

At the invitation of the American Bar Association (ABA), the President of UOKiK participated in the three-day 70th Antitrust Law Spring Meeting "Where competition and consumer protection meet" and its accompanying events.

As part of the ABA conference, Tomasz Chróstny gave a "Fireside Chats with non-US Enforcers" interview, during which he had the opportunity to introduce the conference participants to the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, its competences and priorities, UOKiK’s involvement in international cooperation, and its support for Ukraine and colleagues from its Ukrainian counterpart – the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU).

During his visit to Washington D.C., the President of UOKiK also met with the Chairman of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Alexander Hoehn-Saric. The meeting was an opportunity to exchange experiences on the recall of dangerous products from the market and activities undertaken to increase effectiveness in this area in order to ensure a high level of safety for consumers. The competences of both authorities in the area of market surveillance and product safety, as well as educational initiatives addressed to consumers and entrepreneurs, were also discussed.

The President of UOKiK also participated in the Enforcers Summit, a conference co-organized by the US antitrust authorities – the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice. The event was devoted to discussing the reform of merger control in order to adapt it to the challenges of modern economy.
