Kick-off event of “Competition Market Study: Digital Sector in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania”
  • A project funded by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument (TSI).
  • The market study will consider online marketplaces and their ecosystems in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania. Its aim is to assess possible competitive challenges in each country's market.
  • If the study identifies competition issues, the OECD will provide recommendations to resolve them.

UOKiK, together with the competition authorities of Lithuania and Latvia and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), will implement the European Union (EU) technical assistance project “Competition Market Study: Digital Sector in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania,” which aims to help ensure competitiveness in the digital markets of the above countries.

A kick-off event was held in Vilnius on September 12, 2024, during which representatives of the OECD, the European Commission (EC) and the competition authorities implementing the project presented the project's objectives and upcoming activities. The kick-off event presenting the project was attended by more than 70 participants.

The purpose of the market study is to analyse, from a competition perspective, selected digital markets in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania, particularly online marketplaces and their ecosystems.

OECD experts will also identify regulations in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania to determine if there is a regulatory gap which could create obstacles to the competition authorities’ efforts in solving the identified issues.

If competition issues are identified, the OECD will provide recommendations to resolve them, within the context of the current national and European legislative frameworks, and their suitability to effectively address such issues.

The estimated project duration is 21 months.
